Supporting long-term impact of inclusive sports programs
As a small independent charity, we rely on the vital support of corporate partners to sustain our inclusive sports programs. Sportunity initiatives are designed for long-term impact, and we deeply appreciate partners who share this vision. Their commitment enables us to create lasting change in the lives of displaced individuals while fostering a more cohesive and respectful multicultural community in Luxembourg.
In 2022, after the pandemic caused many funding sources to dry up and shift focus to health support, the Cinven Foundation stepped in to help keep our programs running. Their support has been crucial for both our ongoing and new projects for children and adults, especially the football program for refugee children, which includes an international youth football camp in Sardinia, Italy. It’s this kind of regular, long-term backing that helps us grow, expand, and make a bigger impact for those we serve.
Employees’ Christmas fundraising
As part of the 2021 Christmas charity campaign, PwC Luxembourg employees raised funds for local charities and supported Sportunity with a donation of €6300, which ensured continuity of our inclusive sports programs for refugees.
Social inclusion through golf
During its 2021 golf tournament, Wealins made a donation to Sportunity to fund karate classes for refugees. The sessions, led by a prominent karateka of Syrian origin, served as a training ground for concentration, perseverance, and mutual respect, helping young people find new touchstones in their new environment.
Supporting refugees’ integration through sport
In 2017, ABN AMRO Luxembourg’s Charity Committee decided to support Sportunity and our inclusive sports programs for refugees. This funding, part of the bank’s initiative to support local charities in the countries where it operates, helped us foster diversity and inclusion, creating more opportunities for both children and adults.
Annual employee fundraising
Strengthen team spirit and boost morale while making a meaningful impact. Whether through employee fundraising campaigns, payroll giving, workplace engagement initiatives, or exciting sports activities, there are many ways to get involved. If you’re looking for a more creative and interactive approach, take inspiration from our recent collaborations and discover new ways to contribute!
Since 2018, employees of Fidelity Luxembourg have been organizing a fundraising campaign ahead of the ING Night Marathon to support Sportunity and our inclusive sports programs for refugees. Fidelity head office generously matches the total amount raised by employees, multiplying the impact. This long-standing support has been crucial for sustaining our operations over the years.

Step challenge amidst lockdown
In 2021, to encourage its employees to stay active during the challenging lockdown, Talkwalker organized a step challenge that combined fitness with a charitable cause, making a donation to Sportunity. The increased physical activity of Talkwalker employees directly resulted in a larger charitable contribution, amplifying the impact of our inclusive sports programs and delivering double the health benefits for the community.
Charity ride between Luxembourg and Zurich
In 2018, four colleagues from Julius Baer embarked on an epic journey, cycling 630 km from their Luxembourg office to the bank’s headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. The ride wasn’t just about the distance – it was about team spirit, determination, and making a real difference, as their ultimate goal was to raise funds for Sportunity and help refugee children access sports programs.
Sports day with a purpose
In 2017, Syniverse organized a Sports Day for its employees that blended team-building, physical activity, and fundraising for sports-related causes. By participating in a sports challenge held throughout the day, everyone contributed to the corporate donation to Sportunity, supporting our regular sports programs for refugees.
Since 2024, AXA and Sportunity running teams have joined forces to train and participate in local races, building strong sports ties between refugees and company employees. With refugee integration deeply reliant on human connections, this partnership stands as an example of sports-driven integration in action.
Human connections through sport
Collecting sports equipment and clothing
In-kind donations provide immediate support to those in need. As Sportunity’s activities mainly serve underprivileged participants, donations of sports gear and equipment are a key way to help, although we also welcome pro-bono services that can enhance our programs and improve our overall efficiency. Given the varying needs and each sponsor’s unique situation, we assess each in-kind donation opportunity on a case-by-case basis.
Since 2020, BIL has been supporting our association by donating clothing and sports equipment. Thanks to the warm sports clothing generously collected by the bank’s employees, our displaced participants were well-equipped to train outdoors in cold weather. The donated training equipment also allowed us to set up a sports room in a refugee shelter, ensuring that sport was accessible right at the residents' home.
Providing training equipment for refugee sports teams
In 2017, Amundi supported us with an in-kind donation of essential training equipment and sports gear for our football and karate groups. Such targeted support is especially crucial where turnover of participants is high, as hundreds of new refugees join our programs each year – many of whom have little to no sports clothing.
Sharing time and knowledge
Since 2023, Wavestone has been providing pro bono consulting to Sportunity as part of the firm’s commitment to dedicating a portion of its employees’ time to pro bono work. Some employees have shared their expertise to help improve our processes and effectiveness, while others have engaged in hands-on volunteering during the annual Power Day, working directly with participants in our programs.
